Other Facial Procedures

We have already described the most usual surgical treatments of the face: facelift, rhinoplasty (nose), blepharoplasty (eyelids) and otoplasty (ears), lips enhancement with filling materials and BOTOX ® injections for reduction of wrinkles.

In the following information we will review other face surgical treatments, not as popular as those previously mentioned, but very useful in selected cases.

Mentoplasty (Chin Procedures)  

Mentoplasty modifies the volume and shape of the chin, in order to improve harmony with the rest of the face.

This procedure reduces the bony structure of the chin when is very prominent and a reduction is necessary, or increases chin's volume by means of a silicone implant.  

Malarplasty (Cheek implant)  

This term is used to describe the augmentation or general reshaping of the cheeks. In cheek augmentation Procedures, implants are used to change the underlying structure, which affects the overall balance of facial features. Often cheek implants are used together with other facial implants, particularly chin implants, however, they can be used alone.

Cheek augmentation involves placing the implant over the cheekbone through an incision made inside the mouth or through an opening just beneath the lower eyelash.

Bichat Fat Pad

The Bichat's fat pad is of great significance in facial contouring. Resection of major parts of this fat pad results in accentuation of the cheek. On the other hand, hypoplasia or shrinkage of this fat pad can be augmented by means of silicone implants for improved aesthetic results.

Facial Liposculpture

Face liposuction allows definitive elimination of fat deposits of the face, by means of its aspiration with very fine cannulas. These deposits are mainly localized in the neck and cheeks. These cannulas usually do not leave scars, since the incisions have minimal.

Types of Anesthesia

All minor face surgeries are made usually in ambulatory regime, that is to say, without hospitalization. The anesthesia is local with sedation and the patient will be totally relaxed and insensible to pain.

This type of anesthesia is used all around the world, is safe and provides a comfortable recovery for the patient. However, whenever the complexity of the intervention requires it, general anesthesia is used.

The first postoperative consultation is usually made on the following day and then the recovery process is followed in detail.
